 2nd Half Preview
« Thread Started on Feb 20, 2007, 12:42pm »

At about the halfway point in the 1901 season, things are starting to show some consistency. Here's a preview of what we can expect for the end of the season.

Inaugural World Series
It'll be the Baltimore Orioles vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. My prediction: Pittsburgh's pitching leads them to a victory. I really just don't see the leaders in the division change any time soon unless the Americans make a run when Cy Young returns. Cy has only pitched in 2 innings this year before a devastating Ruptured Achillies injury that has kept him out for 3 months (scheduled to return in 5 days).

AL Most Valuable Player
Mike Donlin will be named the AL's Most Valuable Player barring injury. The guy has been a beast, he leads the AL in Slugging, OPS, RC/27 outs, VORP, home runs, RBIs, tied for first in extra base hits, Isolated Power, and Total Bases. If he's not in first, he's mentioned in the top ten, batting average (2nd), On Base Percentage (4th), Hits (2nd), Doubles (5th), Triples (4th), Runs (2nd), Stolen Bases (2nd), and Walks (4th). No one else really has a chance with the season he's had.

AL Most Valuable Pitcher
Far closer than the Most Valuable Player race, but due to a bad team, Ed Siever should win over Bill Hart. Siever currently leads the AL in ERA, Wins (tied), Shutouts (tied), Hits per 9 IP, HR per 9 IP (tied), Opponent's Average, WHIP, and Baserunners per 9 IP. He's near the top in most other important categories including VORP (2nd) and K's per BB (5th). It's closer than Most Valuable Player, but he should win Most Valuable Pitcher.

NL Most Valuable Player
My choice on this one isn't typical, but it's undecided. This one is just to close to be able to predict it. Sam Crawford and Elmer Flick are the favorites but Honus Wagner and Jesse Burkett deserve mention. This will come down to the wire, but whoever wins will deserve it. It'll be a tough choice in the NL.

NL Most Valuable Pitcher
Jack Powell will probably win NL's Most Valuable Pitcher award, but Jesse Tannehill has a chance to take over the spot. Both are close in statistical terms, but thus far Powell has the edge. Tanny has been hot as of late, recently collecting NL's Most Valuable Pitcher of June award. If he has a repeat month at some point in the 2nd half, he'll win the NL Most Valuable Pitcher award.

Another bump for the remaining grader Brooklyn.

We're currently looking for 2 graders after the recent firing of Red Sox from the Grader position.

Wow I missed that one. Sorry, but it was hidden under the stickied Article Points rules thing with how many points to give and for what. Anyway here is the grade:

Content - 7/10- too predictable, not much outside info thrown.
Length - 4/5
Grammar - 9/10- some awkward sentences
Extras - 2/5- no pictures but I will call the statistics as extras.

22/30- very nice job
